Invitation: Digitization of processes on November 3rd, 2020 at the 4th digital meeting of the BioRiver working group IT

12. October 2020

The biobanking standard ISO 21899, “Biotechnology – Biobanking – General requirements for the validation and verification of processing methods for biological material in biobanks”, was published in June 2020. The standard specifies the general requirements for the validation and verification of processing methods for biological materials in biobanks. It supplements the biobank standard ISO 20387 (“Biotechnology – Biobanking – General requirements for biobanking”) published in 2018.

Processing methods performed in biobanks include, for example, the extraction of DNA, RNA and proteins from various types of samples. ISO 21899 was developed by Working Group 2 of ISO Technical Committee 276 “Biotechnology” to define the specific requirements for the validation of processing methods. Representatives of the Integrated Biobank of Luxembourg (IBBL) were significantly involved.
