Configure catalogs
Below you will find an overview of all available catalog types and their configuration.
1. subject types (e.g. patients, donors)
In the Masterdata → Subject types area, you define which types of study participants are managed in your system – e.g. patient, proband, donor, animal model.
Function:
-
Structured classification of cases (subjects)
-
Basis for the organization and evaluation of your studies
-
Selection is made, for example, when creating a new case
Typical examples:
-
Human patient
-
Organ donor
-
Animal
Configuration:
Administration → Catalogs → Master data → Subject types
2. Sample types
Defines the type of sample that is taken and processed – e.g. blood, urine or saliva.
Special feature:
A detailed mask can be assigned to each sample type in order to record specific additional data (e.g. time of collection, condition, additives).
Configuration:
Administration → Catalogs → Samples → Sample types
3. aliquot types
Aliquot types describe the containers in which biomaterials such as plasma or serum are stored.
Important parameters:
-
Name & description (e.g. “Serum 2ml”)
-
Capacity & unit (e.g. 2 ml)
-
Box compatibility – only suitable boxes are available for selection
Benefit:
-
Enables precise warehouse management
-
Ensures that samples are correctly assigned and can be found again later
Configuration:
Administration → Catalogs → Aliquots → Aliquot type
4. Box types
Box types define the size and structure of the storage boxes and specify which sample types may be stored in them.
Configurable elements:
-
Row & column structure (e.g. A-D, 1-5 → results in 4×5 box)
-
Compatible sample types or aliquot types
Function:
-
Used for automatic space allocation during storage
-
Supports a clear warehouse structure
Configuration:
Administration → Catalogs → Aliquots → Box type
5. standard catalogs
Here you can manage medical or project-specific catalogs such as:
-
Diagnoses
-
Symptoms
-
Laboratory parameters
-
Medication
-
Own user-defined catalogs
Use:
-
These catalogs are integrated into input masks, e.g. when recording clinical data in projects.
Configuration:
Administration → Catalogs → Standard catalogs
