Label printing

Different types of print labels can be created. The available print labels are

Available print labels

  1. Code128 (1D)
    • DescriptionA 1D barcode that can encode alphanumeric characters and special symbols. It is often used for labeling products and samples.
    • UsageIdeal for labeling where simple scannable data is required and offers high data density in a small area.
  2. DataMatrix (2D)
    • DescriptionA 2D barcode that can store larger amounts of data than 1D barcodes. DataMatrix codes consist of a matrix of black and white modules and are compact and robust.
    • UsageUseful for environments where a large amount of data is required in a small space and for labeling small parts or samples in the biobank.
  3. QR code (2D)
    • DescriptionA widely used 2D barcode that encodes data in a square grid. QR codes can store a variety of data, including URLs, text or contact information.
    • UseFrequently used for fast data transfer and easy collection of information. QR codes are particularly useful when users need to access additional information by scanning the code with a smartphone.

Create labels

To create print labels in the MEDEORA software, proceed as follows:

  1. Select the label type:
    • Determine which type of print label you require (Code128, DataMatrix, QR code).
  2. Enter the required data:
    • Add the relevant information to be displayed on the label, such as aliquot numbers, sample numbers or other identifiers.
  3. Print the labels:
    • Use the print options within the software to output the labels to your printer.
  4. Check the labels:
    • Ensure that labels are correct and legible, especially barcodes and QR codes, to ensure error-free identification and tracking of samples.

It is also possible to print labels for new tubes (aliquot numbers not yet in the system).

Extension of the print function

Ability to print labels for all sample numbers with a specific phrase (or information in the “Description” field) so that you can, for example, print all labels for sample or aliquot numbers with a specific abbreviation (for a specific study or subject/patient abbreviation). With this search function, you can search for all suitable samples and aliquots and display them in a list. In this list, the user can also deselect individual samples or aliquots if required. You can print all associated labels at once with one click.
